Almost everything I paint is within five miles of my home. The exceptions being pictures taken during holidays of our travels throughout B.C., and later painted with a healthy dose of imagination. Although based upon reality, my paintings quickly transform to a world where design and colour overrule what was actually there. The painting is much more important than the original image. I usually throw my original photo out after the first five minutes of painting. Within an hour, there is very little similarity between photo and painting. The beauty of painting is how we can let our imagination takeover and lead us to new places.
